The Michigan Department of Transportation will launch the Restore I-94 project in February 2026, targeting a 12.7-mile stretch between I-275 and Michigan Avenue.

This ambitious plan aims to enhance safety, ease traffic congestion, and modernize I-94 for Romulus, Taylor, Allen Park, Dearborn Heights, Melvindale, and Dearborn residents.

The work includes comprehensive road and bridge reconstruction, lighting, drainage upgrades, and a new Ecorse Road interchange.

Segmented construction will keep one to two lanes open in each direction, but drivers should expect ramp closures and plan alternate routes.

Access to  Detroit Metropolitan Airport and the Ford Rouge Plant will remain available.

Two public meetings, scheduled for February 2026 in Allen Park and Taylor, will offer community members a forum for questions.

With a $353 million investment, the project is set to support nearly 3,000 jobs, promising both improved roads and a boost to the local economy.
