Quote Of The Day

"Life is like a camera. Focus on what's important, capture the good times, develop from the negatives, and if things don't work out, take another shot."

Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport has introduced major security upgrades after a vehicle crashed into the McNamara Terminal in January, injuring six people.

Massive 9,000-pound concrete barriers now surround the McNamara and Evans Terminals as a new line of defense.

This reinforced safety measure comes after a driver forced a Mercedes-Benz through previous protections, causing significant damage at a Delta Air Lines check-in area.

Chad Newton, CEO of the Wayne County Airport Authority, called the incident "unprecedented" and stressed that it has reshaped the airport’s approach to security.

The new barriers, modeled after those used in New York and New Orleans, are designed to withstand heavy impacts while airport officials determine a permanent solution.

Despite mixed feelings about their appearance, most travelers support the focus on increased safety and vigilance.

Metro Detroit animal rescues are battling a wave of fake Facebook pages, putting both vital donations and community trust at risk.

Happy Paws Haven, a no-kill rescue active in Royal Oak, Ferndale, Detroit, Madison Heights, and Birmingham, recently uncovered an impersonator page that attracted more than 23,000 followers.

This fraudulent page used stolen animal photos to trick supporters into sending money through a misleading PayPal link, falsely claiming animals would be euthanized without urgent donations.

Local news exposure finally led to its removal, though the scam’s payment link persisted briefly.

Detroit Animal Care and Control has also flagged schemes where scammers pretend to be staff, pressuring owners for phone payments linked to lost pets and medical emergencies.

The Better Business Bureau urges vigilance, recommending people confirm an organization’s legitimacy before donating and watch for suspicious profiles or content.

Supporters are encouraged to use only verified channels to help local rescues protect animals in need.

The American Red Cross has issued an urgent call for blood donations across Metro Detroit due to a critical shortage worsened by recent harsh winter weather and a tough flu season.

Blood supplies have plummeted by 35% as drives were canceled and thousands of donations went uncollected nationwide, including 327 missed just in Michigan.

This shortage is straining local hospitals, causing some to delay elective procedures and leaving trauma surgeons concerned over dwindling reserves.

The winter months and flu outbreak have made things even more dire, sharply reducing the number of available donors.

To help, the Red Cross has planned several local blood drives throughout February.

All blood types—especially O, A negative, and B negative—are urgently needed, and donors will receive a $20 e-gift card through February 28.

Local participation is crucial to ensure patients receive lifesaving care.
