The donation aims to strengthen youth development efforts and provide more opportunities for local students. |
Royal Oak Detroit Elks No. 34 has generously contributed a $2,000 grant to the Metro Detroit Youth Clubs (MDYC), aiming to bolster youth development initiatives across the region.
This funding is earmarked for the acquisition of sports equipment and the provision of membership scholarships, ensuring that financial constraints do not hinder local students from accessing MDYC's programs.
Brett Tillander, President and CEO of MDYC, expressed profound appreciation for the Elks' enduring support.
He highlighted that the Elks have been steadfast allies for decades, consistently stepping up to support various programs, including those tailored for special-needs youth and recreational activities.
He emphasized that this particular grant is especially beneficial for the organization.
MDYC serves over 2,400 members across multiple Metro Detroit locations.
While the annual membership fee is set at $50, this cost can be burdensome for families with multiple children.
The Elks' grant enables MDYC to offer scholarships, alleviating financial pressures and ensuring that all interested youth can participate.
Carla Johnson, Treasurer of Royal Oak Detroit Elks No. 34, stated that the decision to support MDYC aligns with the Elks' mission of charity and community service.
She noted that their focus is on community-oriented programs, and they chose to allocate funds to assist children in need at MDYC.
Beyond financial assistance, the grant enhances MDYC's ability to provide a safe, accessible, and affordable environment for after-school activities.
These include art and athletic programs, daily tutoring, homework assistance, and leadership development for teens.
Notably, more than half of MDYC's members are teenagers who actively choose to engage with the club, underscoring its positive impact on their lives.
MDYC is committed to inclusivity, welcoming all youth and ensuring that financial barriers do not prevent participation.
When families learn that organizations like the Elks have made their memberships possible, the relief and gratitude are palpable.
This support underscores the importance of community partnerships in fostering youth development and strengthening communal bonds. |
